Range over specialization

We do not hire people to do one thing forever. We hire people who can write a research brief in the morning, prototype a tool in the afternoon, and present findings to a community group by evening. Range is our competitive advantage.

Writing is thinking

If you cannot write it down clearly, you do not understand it yet. We write memos instead of scheduling meetings. We publish our reasoning so others can challenge it. Clear writing is not a nice-to-have. It is how we operate.

Default to open

Our research is published openly. Our tools are open source. Our processes are documented. We believe transparency accelerates everything: trust, learning, and impact. If there is not a good reason to keep something private, we share it.

Cleveland matters

We are not a remote-first company that happens to have a Cleveland address. We are a Cleveland organization. This city is in our work, our identity, and our daily lives. Being here is not a constraint. It is the strategy.

Application

When a role is open, submit your resume and a short note about why CMRU interests you. No cover letter template. Just tell us what you are thinking.

Initial Conversation

A 30-minute call to get to know each other. We will tell you about the role and the organization. You ask us anything you want.

Work Sample

When useful, a short paid exercise that mirrors actual work for the role. No trick questions. No whiteboard puzzles. Real work.

Team Meeting

Meet the people you would work with. This is as much for you as it is for us. Fit goes both directions.

Offer

If it is a mutual fit, the offer is clear about scope, compensation, expectations, and timing.

Internships

Future CMRU internships will be designed for students and early-career professionals who want hands-on experience working at the intersection of research, technology, and policy.

We intend for internships to be paid. If someone is doing real work, they should be compensated for it.
